What are elastic nipples?

If you have elastic nipples, you might notice that when you're pumping, your nipples stretch really far into the flange, almost to the end of the connector.

Why are elastic nipples a problem?

They can be very painful. Additionally, because extra tissue is being pulled in, milk ducts may not be compressed correctly and output may be affected. Here are some things you can try.

Silicone Pumpin Pals

Pumpin Pals are a different shape - they taper into the flange tunnel, as opposed to the hard ring. Pumpin Pals come in both plastic and silicone - if you have elastic nipples, you want the silicone ones.

LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges

LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges are also made of silicone and can work well with elastic nipples. They have a little notch that is intended to mimic a baby nursing.

BeauGen cushions are inserts that you put in your normal breast shields. The material can help "grip" the nipple better than flanges on their own. These can be a good option if you have a connected breast shield and connector, like Spectra flanges.

Lubrication

Using some kind of lubrication, like coconut oil or a pumping spray, can be helpful for some people with elastic nipples.
