Pumping should never hurt. Often, if you’re having pain, the problem is your breast shields. LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges are made of silicone and can be a more comfortable option for some people. Here’s a complete LacTeck review.

What are LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges?
LacTeck BabyMotion flanges are breast shields that are made of silicone and are designed to mimic nursing.
You can see more of how they look and work in the below stories:
LacTeck Review
Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of these breast shields.
LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges Pros
Moms who use LacTeck flanges like the following things about them.
1. They are silicone
LacTeck flanges are made of silicone, so they are softer, more flexible, and can be more comfortable than hard plastic breast shields.
2. Better seal
Because the flanges are more flexible, they may provide a better seal to your breasts than plastic flanges. This can make breast compressions easier.
3. May stimulate letdown
The shape/material may help stimulate letdown better than plastic flanges, as it compresses the nipple and areola differently.
Being able to quickly get letdowns can make pumping much faster and also help you get as much milk as possible.
LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges Cons
There are also a few disadvantages.
1. They are heavy
They are a little heavy, and this can cause the bottles to tip over when you’re done pumping. To avoid spills, you may need to take the breast shields off of the bottles before you set them down.
2. Best with separate flange and connector
It’s a little extra work to set up with adapters and everything if you don’t have a pump that uses a separate breast shield/connector (for example, like Spectra pump parts).
Who are these flanges good for?
These flanges are great for anyone who has elastic nipples. Elastic nipples means that your nipples stretch far into the flange, almost to the end of the connector. (More on elastic nipples here.)
Additionally, if you’re having pain with pumping, or just can’t seem to find a size that works for you, these are definitely worth a try. Pumping shouldn’t hurt.
What pumps do LacTeck breast shields work with?
You can use LacTeck flanges with many popular pumps, though sometimes you’ll need an adapter.
Medela, Lansinoh, and Hygeia
LacTeck BabyMotion flanges fit into Medela, Lansinoh, and Hygeia breast pump parts without any adaptors.
To use these flanges with your pump, you just replace the breast shield that came with your pump with the LacTeck one.
Spectra and Motif
Spectra and Motif breast pumps have a combined breast shield and connector, which can make using different breast shields a little more challenging.
One way to do this is with an adapter like this one:
This basically allows you have separate flange and connector, as with Medela pumps.
Willow and Freemie
If you’d like to use LacTeck flanges with a Willow or Freemie, you may be able to insert them into the breast shields. More on this for Willow here, and Freemie here.

Tips and tricks for using LacTeck flanges
Here are a few tips for using these breast shields:
- Make sure that you securely put the flange into the connector using a twisting motion, as sometimes the flange can slip out, sending a full bottle of breast milk crashing to the ground.
- The flanges have a little notch that is supposed to help mimic a baby nursing (that’s the “babymotion” part of the flanges). This notch should be at the bottom.
- If you’re worried about spilling milk because the flanges are heavy, keep a few coffee mugs at your pumping station that you can put your bottles in when you’re done pumping.
What size should you buy?
LacTeck flanges come in 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, and 27mm sizes.
In most cases, you can use the same size that you use with your normal breast shields. However, if you have elastic nipples, LacTeck has found that some people need to size down.
If you have any sizing questions, LacTeck recommends emailing them at contact@lacteck.com.

Thank you for helping me on my first EP journey and supporting my 2nd journey (Ep and breastfeeding to up supply- I am a barely just enougher or just a little under).
I heard about the lactek flanges and what to give them a try. Thankful you reviewed them. Tried to use the code EPUMP222 but the code was invalid.
Also, how true is their scale for flange fitting? I measure 14 L and 15 R before pumping so it says I should get the 15mm. Just nervous of wrong fit. They’ll be used with Spectra and a buddha – hacked them to work interchangeably.
Thank you!

I love these flanges, although something strange happened today. I have been using them for 2 months, and they fit securely into the adapter that I use with my spectra pump. All of a sudden, today they wont stay in the adapter, they slide right out, and are now too small for the adapter. Its not a problem of me not twisting them in tight enough. They literally seem to have changed size, and dont fit the plastic adapter anymore. I’m not sure what gives. I’ve been using, cleaning, and storing these things the same way, nothing has changed. It worked 4 hours ago, but now it doesn’t. Im baffled. wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the flanges suddenly sliding out of the adapter.

Do you feel these flanges change in size over time (stretch out maybe)? Would they need to be replaced?
Amanda Glenn, CLC says
Hi Allison! I think all pump parts need to be replaced periodically due to microscopic tears and build up, but flanges only need to be replaced every 6 months or so. So hopefully only once in a year of pumping?
Kat says
Are these flanges compatible with the Medela freestyle pump? Do you need adapters?
Amanda Glenn, CLC says
Yes they are, no adapters needed. 🙂

Thank you so much for updating the code!

FYI: I tried the EPUMP221 coupon code today (May 6th 2022) and it says it’s expired now.
Amanda Glenn, CLC says
Thank you! It should be EPUMP222! I updated the post.

Thanks for this thorough review, Amanda! Here’s mine.
I purchased these flanges and they have been working well. I was noticing that I still had some firmness/a few lumps in my breasts after exclusively pumping with my plastic Lansinoh flanges. The part of my breast that was under the flange was cramped, and I easily got clogs. It was hard to massage/do breast compressions on that part too, as it’s sort of trapped/held firmly under the flange. I was also experiencing some sharp nipple discomfort and wanted to try softer silicone flanges. So I got them, and at first I had an adjustment period. I was using the BabyMotion flanges for the first part of my sessions and switching back to the plastic Lansinoh ones for the very end of my sessions – they seemed to give the last bit of pressure/tightness around my nipples in order to empty my breasts. But then I noticed that my breasts had seemed to adjust, and I could empty very well and a little faster with the BabyMotion, so I have been exclusively using them now for the past couple months. I’ve been using basically the same size as my previous flanges (24 vs 25mm), but recently I’ve been upping my suction level and noticed that more of my areola is being pulled into the flange. So I’m considering sizing down to 21mm BabyMotion flanges – I DO suspect I have elastic nipples, and maybe this was the reason for my “adjustment period” – because I know it’s possible to get used to the wrong flange size. Like Lacteck says, you may have to try a couple sizes or start with a size down from your plastic flanges. Highly recommend this product!

Do you have recommendations for connectors that are the most compact and easiest to clean?
Nida says
Which Medela connector are you using here?

These are the Pump in Style with Max Flow connectors. 🙂
