When I was exclusively pumping, I did an experiment to see whether eating oatmeal would affect my supply. The result was that it did! On the days when I ate oatmeal for breakfast, I pumped about an ounce or two more than on the days I didn’t.

However, I really do not care for oatmeal – at least not oatmeal made the way I was making it, which was pouring old fashioned oats and water in a bowl, microwaving them for a minute and a half, and stirring in some Splenda. It was gross, and I basically had to choke it down every day.

However! There are better ways to eat oatmeal. One way that is really easy and delicious is overnight oats, where you mix everything together the night before, and then it’s all ready to go in the morning.

Note: This recipe will work best with all three galactagogues, but if you don’t have brewer’s yeast or flax seed on hand, you can try it without and see if just the oatmeal boosts your milk supply. The easiest way to get brewer’s yeast is on amazon.

Lactation Overnight Oats Ingredients in a bowl - peanut butter, brewer's yeast, flaxseed, oats, vanilla, and honey

Feel free to try other chocolate toppings in addition to or instead of the chocolate chips! I used M&Ms once when I ran out of chocolate chips and those were great, too!

I love oatmeal! I’m 19 weeks pregnant and have been eating it every morning for the past two months. The great thing about oatmeal is that it’s highly customizable. I’ve never microwaved it or put refined sugar or any sugar substitute in it because that does make it taste gross to me. Plus I eliminated refined sugar from my diet when I got pregnant. I always make it on the stove because it’s so quick and easy. It’s my favorite morning ritual. I feel like oats are sweet enough on their own but if you add a banana to the water as it is boiling before adding the oats it makes for a sweeter and creamier oatmeal. I also never use milk just water so the banana is great for people that think the water isn’t as good to use as milk or for people that are lactose intolerant but don’t like watery oatmeal. I also do berries and a mandarin orange for added sweetness. Plus hemp seeds and coconut milk soaked chia seeds that I make a big batch of in a mason jar and use a spoonful every morning. That’s my oatmeal recipe and I absolutely love it. P.S. I don’t often do the banana this days because the Mandarin and berries make it sweet enough without but it’s one thing I’ve found that really improves the sweetness and texture without adding milk and sugar and I’ve never known anyone that did the banana this way.

For the coconut milk soaked chia seeds I do half a cup of chia seeds in one can of coconut milk. One teaspoon of vanilla and cinnamon. It usually lasts me about a week.

This was delicious. I finally grabbed brewers yeast and milled flax seed to add. I’ve been using powdered peanut butter…that should be fine right?

If I multiple servings for the week, will they keep? I’d like to make 4-5 days worth if possible. Thanks!

A pan of these should last for 5 days in an airtight container!

I am not a big fan of oatmeal but these tasted pretty good. reminded me of no bake cookies. I would add the chocolate chips, splash of milk and stir. Then would put it in the microwave for a minute before eating. Will have to eat more to see how they do on my supply.

I’m not a huge fan of peanut butter, could I just skip it or would it affect the recipe?

I don’t think you can skip it. What about making brownies instead?
