These cookies are really easy to make! Here are a few common questions.
Can you substitute a different kind of oats?
Yes. Rolled, old-fashioned, or quick cooking oats will work fine.
Steel cut oats have a different nutritional profile and texture. If you try this recipe with steel cut oats, let me know how it goes!
Where can I get brewer’s yeast?
The easiest way to get brewer’s yeast is from amazon.
You can also make it without brewer’s yeast. You can substitute 1/3 cup of flour for the 1/3 cup of brewer’s yeast.
Can you use all chocolate chips or all M&Ms?
Yes, you just want 2 cups of chocolate chips or M&Ms, or some combination thereof.
I have made these with both baking-sized M&Ms and full size, and I preferred the full-sized ones but either will work.
Can you halve the recipe?
Yes.
This recipe makes 48 cookies. If you want to halve the recipe, the only issue is that it calls for three eggs – so you can just crack open two in a separate bowl, whisk them, and then pour about 3/4 of the mixture into the mixer.
Can you freeze these cookies?
Yes. Freeze them on a baking sheet or flat surface, and then once they are frozen, put them in a plastic bag to store them.
You can see the step-by-step process for making these in the below stories:

These are TOO good
These are delicious! Can I freeze them, though? It makes way more than I can eat in just a few days!
hi Katelyn! YEs you can! And thank you!
Is it possible to use gluten free substitutes for a few of the ingredients
I used GF 1-to-1 flour and they are perfectly delicious!
These are delicious! I used half rolled oats and half steel oats (it’s all I had on hand) with chocolate chips and a broken up Hershey bar. I’m so glad I found this recipe.
Thank you Tara!
Hi Amanda! I live in Germany and only found the brewers test in flakes. Does it still work?
Hi Ana! I haven’t tested them, but I would guess it would work as a substitute? If you’re nervous about it, you could also just leave the brewer’s yeast out. But my guess would be that it would be okay. Good luck!
Tried this but I accidentally added 1tsp of baking powder.
Fortunately it came out fine 🙂 Love your recipe!
Definitely a keeper.
First time mom of a hungry 2 month old and these cookies are awesome!
I was worried about producing enough for my little girl and these cookies are a simple and yummy way to help.
Instead of half chocolate chips and half m&m’s, I’ve been doing 1/2 cups of butterscotch, white chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate and 1/2 m&m’s. I’ve also added coconut flakes to them once or twice.
Turns them into yummy “everything but the kitchen sink” lactation cookies.
Thanks Amanda!
Hello hello 🙂
I love these cookies so much! But I have a question, will these cookies have the same effect if you don’t use brewers yeast?
Great cookies! My go to recipe for keeping my supply up! Third time I’ve made them and great every time! I like to add 1 cup dark chocolate morsel chips with 1 cup mini M &Ms and tastes awesome! I love that it makes a large batch too since I don’t have to make them as often. Also, it’s better to flatten the balls of dough a little before baking so they spread better and more flat. Definitely keeps my supply up!
Thank you so much Jaime!
These are super yummy! Thank you! Is it best to store them in the fridge or just the counter, if I plan to eat them within a few days (freezing the rest)?
I would just leave them on the counter! Thank you so much Kristi!
Good morning!
This is third time I’ve made these cookies and they taste good every time! However, the first time I made these they came out just like the picture. The 2nd and 3rd time though, they were super flat and resembled more of a muffin top cookie. I have no idea what I did differently. Just hope I didn’t ruin the the effect and just eating useless cookies now.
Any advice?? Thanks!
Hi Candace! Oh, I’m so sorry the last few batches haven’t turned out as well! As long as you are getting the ingredients (oatmeal/brewer’s yeast/flaxseed) the cookies should skill work! 🙂
Can I add peanut butter in these?
I adore this recipe, I’m so glad I found it! Thank you for sharing! I really do think these have helped my milk supply. I’m on my 4th time making the recipe and it has turned out every time. I have swapped out the chocolate for whatever I have. My favorite combination is when I did white chocolate, m&m’s and chocolate chips.
Thank you so much Jacey!!!! 🙂
Delicious cookies! Can’t wait to see if my supply increases!
Is it okay to freeze it as a dough and then just put in the fridge to thaw and then cook remaining?
Yes! I did this when I was testing the recipe. 🙂
I need to swap the eggs for applesauce due to an allergy. Would you happen to know how much applesauce I would add?
I don’t know but I googled it and it says to do 1/4 cup per egg! Let me know how it goes!
Taste great and are pretty easy to make!
But when I mixed the ground flax seeds with the hot water it became a very sticky blob. I managed to get it apart in the mixer and integrated in the dough, but was not easy. Did I do something wrong? Is it possible to put the powder in the dough without mixing it with hot water first?
Thanks 🙂
Hi Julie! Thank you so much! I haven’t tested it but I think if you put the powder in and add the water to wet ingredients you’d be okay? Thanks again!
Are these cookies 130 calories each? What is the serving size?
Yes, and one cookie. 🙂
Great recipe! These cookies are addicting – bright side is they helped with my supply. I also added coconut flakes and sliced almonds to get a crunch. Thank you for the recipe- keep up the great work!
Thank you SO much Tarryn!!!!
I have my first batch in the oven now! Question: If I want to freeze them, do I freeze the dough or the baked cookies?
You can do either!
Tastes good. I’m not sure if it’ll help out, but they’re good cookies regardless!
How long do these stay good frozen?
I have only tested 2-3 weeks for this recipe, but my understanding is that most cookies can be frozen for up to 6 months!
Might be a silly question but how many do you eat a day to notice a difference in supply?
Hi Becky! It will be different for everyone, but I would start with 3 or 4?
Where’s the eggs in the recipe?
Fixed! Thank you so much for letting me know I missed them!
I use to drink “healthy nursing tea” which I get from Amazon. this herbal formula is awesome in order to get your supply elevated. a few brands are there with the same title but I use to buy one secretsoftea brand. its an all natural herbal formula that is preservatives free and tastes great.
